MOBILE APP DEVELOPMENT BY DISRUPTIV

Finally, an easier way to buy and sell livestock

STOCKD aggregates livestock being sold across Australia whether online, in saleyards or direct from the paddock so buyers have an immediate central view of sheep and cattle for sale. It alerts buyers to relevant local livestock, as they hit the market, so you can be the first to contact the agent.

Disruptiv created a new concept to develop and disrupt the livestock industry with an app named STOCKD. We worked closely with Ray White Rural to create, develop and launch an innovative technical solution that disrupted the livestock industry and paved the way for the industry to adopt an eCommerce solution for finding, buying and selling livestock. Extensive research was undertaken in the early stages of concept development because it was a new solution, which had never been done before and there was no playbook or best practice. We were developing a new solution to solve an old problem…

Research was conducted with real users to make the product fit-for-purpose and we wanted to launch an app, which enabled users to search for livestock in a simple and fast way. The objectives were to provide to a simple user experience, create a new private marketplace, train agents, reach out for graziers to engage and sign up, generate commercial returns, develop a new brand identity and boost the popularity of the app.

The Challenge

Ray White Rural trusted Disruptiv to develop a comprehensive technical solution to overcome their key challenges and make their app a public marketplace which connects the graziers (farmers) to the buyers. Prior to the launch of the StockD app, the way live cattle was sold was through personal relationships between the graziers and the agents whereas the agents had control of how much they would sell the live stock to the buyers. In turn, the app essentially turned a personal working relationship to a private one where Ray White had control of the listings and the marketplace. This worked well for Ray White as it aligned with their current systems as well as how they they operate their real estate listings. Another challenge Ray White Rural had prior to the launch of the app was the farmers would take a photo of their live stock on their phone, send it to the agent and then they would sent it to potential buyers. We had to find a way to replicate this which will allow the farmers to seamlessly upload these photos to the app without completely changing the way they have always done things. One of the biggest financial challenges the farmers faced was transporting their live stock to live auctions. The amount of money spent on transporting cattle to and from these locations was very pricey, this is where the open marketplace on the StockD app overcame these extremely hefty prices of physically taking the cattle to a location.

Ray White wanted to be the industry leader and owner of the way livestock was being sold in the open marketplace to the public. The open marketplace was able to connect one grazier to another grazier and eliminate the middle man which ended up being a success.
